When I rescued my first dog,
I was working as a zookeeper — training gorillas, elephants, and sea lions by day, and coming home to a puppy who didn’t care about credentials. Within weeks, our home felt chaotic. I realized obedience wasn’t enough. I needed to actually understand my dog — what motivated him, what confused him, and how to build trust between us.
That moment shifted everything. I took what I knew from years of animal behavior science and poured it into helping families just like yours. Since founding Newman’s Dog Training in 2011, I’ve helped hundreds of families build peace, clarity, and joyful routines with their dogs — without fear or frustration.

What training techniques does Newman's Dog Training use?
We follow the studies that have been done over the past decades that proves using positive reinforcement is the best way to train not only dogs but every learning species. Newman's Dog Training follows LIMA. This is “Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive”. LIMA describes a dog trainer who uses the least intrusive, minimally aversive approach of humane and effective methods to succeed in achieving the training objective.
The Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers® (CCPDT®), established in 2001, is the leading independent certifying organization for the dog training profession. The CCPDT is the leader in the development of rigorous exams to demonstrate mastery of humane, science-based dog training practices. Thousands of dog training professionals worldwide maintain the CCPDT’s certifications as a mark of high professional distinction.
Newman’s Dog Training is a Certified Evaluator but we are also able to help you get your dog ready for the test. The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) is a certification your dog can obtain to prove they know their commands and will behave in society. They will be tested on ten behaviors such as sit, down, walking on the leash, stay and more.
Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT ) allows their members to stay up to date on latest trends, techniques and scientific studies while creating and maintaining superior industry standard.
